The medical community in British Columbia is mourning Dr. Jill Griffiths, a respected fertility physician at Olive Fertility Centre’s Kelowna clinic, following news of her unexpected death.

Dr. Griffiths was remembered by colleagues as a compassionate physician whose dedication to reproductive medicine helped individuals and couples navigate fertility challenges and pursue their hopes of starting families. Her passing has left colleagues reflecting on her professional contributions and the personal warmth she brought to the workplace.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Griffiths completed her Bachelor of Medical Science degree and medical education at the University of Alberta, graduating from medical school in 2001. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynaecology in 2006 before beginning her career in general obstetrics and gynaecology in Edmonton.

She later focused on fertility medicine, working at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Pacific Centre for Reproductive Medicine between 2014 and 2020. Throughout her career, she supported patients through deeply personal reproductive journeys, helping many families pursue their dreams of having children.

Dr. Griffiths also contributed to medical education and professional development. She served as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Alberta, mentoring medical students and residents. Her professional service included work as a physician peer facilitator and practice reviewer with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

In 2022, she joined Olive Fertility Centre, bringing her experience to the clinic’s medical team in Kelowna. The centre remembered her as a bright and thoughtful physician who approached patient care with compassion and meticulous attention.

In a remembrance shared on November 5, Olive Fertility Centre also highlighted her positive energy and the joy she brought to those around her. Her colleagues expressed their sadness at her loss and the significant place she held within the team.

Outside her medical career, Dr. Griffiths had a deep appreciation for music. She trained in classical piano and also taught the instrument. Her other interests included rowing, sewing, and spending time outdoors. She was associated with the Kelowna Rowing Club after relocating with her family from Edmonton to Kelowna in early 2021.

Dr. Griffiths was also a loving mother of four children. Her life was defined not only by her work in medicine but also by her family, personal interests, and the relationships she built throughout her life.

Following her death, Olive Fertility Centre addressed concerns about patient care at its Kelowna clinic, assuring patients that arrangements were being made to maintain continuity of treatment. Those with questions about their ongoing fertility care were encouraged to contact their care team directly.

Dr. Jill Griffiths leaves behind a professional legacy shaped by years of service to patients, contributions to medical education, and a commitment to helping families grow. She will be remembered by colleagues and the wider medical community for her compassion, dedication, and positive spirit.
